Description
This blend holds such a special place for me. I wanted to create something that captured the richness of chai while offering the roasted depth of coffee—and Forest Chai Mate was born. At vendor shows, it’s always a crowd favorite, and I love watching people’s faces light up when they take their first sip. For me, the roasted yerba mate makes it perfect for mornings when I want steady energy, and the cedar tips we foraged from the Sierra Nevadas add such a unique, earthy brightness that connects me right back to nature.
Flavor Profile:
Roasted yerba mate brings smooth, malty depth, while chicory root adds that coffee-like richness. Cocoa powder and roasted carob bring natural chocolate notes, with ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, and clove weaving in the warmth of traditional chai. A touch of chili flake adds gentle heat, while cedar tips brighten the cup with woodsy, forest-inspired flavor. Smoky, chocolaty, and spiced with a coffee-like kick.
Why Yerba Mate Chai?
Unlike black tea, roasted yerba mate can steep longer without bitterness, allowing the roasted notes and spices to fully develop. It makes for a robust, energizing cup that’s smooth, balanced, and perfect as a coffee alternative. Ingredients: Roasted yerba mate, ginger root, roasted chicory root, cinnamon, cocoa powder, allspice, clove, cardamom, chili flakes, roasted carob, cedar tips.
Loose Leaf Brewing Tips:
Use 1–1.5 Tbsp per 8–16 oz hot water (200 °F). While yerba mate allows for a longer brew, this blend can get very strong. If you like bold, brew away! But for a balanced cup, start with 4 minutes. A more conservative first steep also makes for an excellent second brew.
Serving Tip:
I highly recommend adding cream and a touch of sweetness—this brings out the depth of the roasted mate, cocoa, and spices, transforming it into a velvety, indulgent cup reminiscent of a forest-inspired chai latte.
A Little Note:
Yerba mate offers a different kind of energy than black tea—smooth, steady, and long-lasting. Combined with roasted and spiced elements in this blend, it makes a beautiful morning ritual or mid-day pick-me-up.
